LAS VEGAS, NV —

The Local Angler Fly Fishing Austin & Central Texas,
Wins the 2020 National Outdoor Book Award

The National Outdoor Book Awards (NOBA) is the outdoor world’s largest and most prestigious book award program.  It is a non-profit, educational program, sponsored by the National Outdoor Book Awards Foundation, Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education, and Idaho State University.

The 2020 awards were announced recently, and the winner for Outdoor Adventure Guide was awarded to The Local Angler Fly Fishing Austin & Central Texas by Aaron Reed, published by Imbrifex Books. The winners are chosen by a panel of judges consisting of educators, academics, book reviewers, authors, editors, and outdoor columnists from throughout the country.

The panel praised the guide as “well designed and thoroughly useful” and had this to say about the author: “All you have to do is to read the introductory chapters to realize that Aaron Reed is the sort of guy who you wouldn’t mind having as a fishing pal.  Fortunately, for most of us, his fly-fishing guide allows you to do just that.  He covers more than 100 legal fishing accesses, most within 50 miles of Austin and others within a 90-mile radius.  Besides being a first-rate writer, he’s a darn good photographer, and his color photographs are the perfect supplement.”

Fly Fishing Austin & Central Texas, which was published in May 2020 by Imbrifex Books as part of their The Local Angler series, was the #1 New Release for both fishing and travel guides on Amazon and received wide acclaim from media and readers alike. Kirk Deeter from Trout Unlimited Magazine called Aaron “a darn fine writer with a great eye for detail” and said about the book “…it is wonderfully produced with color imagery, directions, and advice for all skill levels and ages. It is one of the best region-focused resources on fly fishing I’ve seen in a long time” Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine boasted: “Whether you’re a first-time fly fisher or veteran angler, you’re certain to leave this book with new knowledge and hopeful surprises.”

Aaron Reed is an award-winning outdoor writer and Army veteran. He currently splits his time between his native Texas Gulf coast, where he drives a tugboat, and his home near the banks of the San Gabriel River in Georgetown, Texas. He is a founding member of the Texas Streams Coalition and has worked for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. When he is not working, chances are you can find him knee-deep in a stream somewhere around Austin, often with his wife and one or more of his three boys, trying like heck to become a better fly fisherman.

Aaron is available for interviews, Q&A, and speaking engagements.  To learn more and read his blog please visit:  flyfishingaustin.thelocalangler.com
